What is a soup chicken?
A soup chicken is an egg-laying hen that has retired from laying eggs (about 2-3 years old). That’s awesome when you consider that chickens raised for meat live to be 30-45 days old before becoming dinner. Soup chickens, also called stew hens, make for a great slow-cooked chicken stock and soup. The longer you cook it, the more tender the meat gets!
A typical soup chicken is in the 2.5 to 3.5 lb. range. Delivered frozen.
WARNING: Comes vacuum-sealed in plastic!
Note: meat is delivered in a reused plastic insulated bag and a reused plastic ice pack. We take these back and reuse them again and again! Also, if you will be home at the time of delivery, you may request that the meat be delivered without the plastic bag and ice pack. Please make note of this request in the order notes, or contact us after your order is placed: firstname.lastname@example.org.
